    Leander

       Leander was a composite built clipper ship, measuring 215.5ft x 35.2ft x 20.7ft, 848 tons net. She was designed by Bernard Waymouth, and built in 1867 by J G Lawrie of Glasgow for Joseph Somes.
       Before 1871, Leander sailed between London and the Far East (China) and later from China to New York City.
       Re-rigged as a barque in the 1890, the ship was sold to R. Anderson of London, then to Ross & Company. Her last owner was Seyed Youssouf bin Ahmed Zuwawee of Oman and was renamed Nusrool Mujeed in 1895 and broken up in 1901.
       A composite tea clipper built in 1867 by J.G. Lawrie, Glasgow, to the design of Bernard Waymouth. Dimensions: 215'5"?35'2"?20'7" and tonnage: 886 GRT, 848 NRT and 848 tons under deck. She had a raised quarter deck 42 ft long. 
       The main topgallant sail was rigged with Colling and Pinkney's roller reefing gear. 

       Re-rigged as a barque in the 1890s. 
    1867 September
       Launched at the shipyard of J.G. Lawrie, Glasgow, for the Merchant Shipping Co. (Joseph Somes), London. Assigned the official British Reg. No. 56878 and signal HSGM. Employed in the China tea trade until 1879.

       Sailed from London to Shanghai in 106 days. 
    1870 October 12 - January 18
       Sailed from Shanghai to London in 98 days with a cargo of 1.137.000 lbs of tea.

       In command of Captain M.J. Knight.

       Sailed from London to Hong Kong in 95 days. 
    1871 August 3 - November 20
       Sailed from Amoy to New York in 109 days. 
    1872 September 22 - January 2
      Sailed from Yokohama to New York in 102 days. 
    1873 October 28 - February 2
       Sailed from Shanghai to New York in 97 days. 
    1874 November 8 - February 19
       Sailed from Shanghai to New York in 103 days. 
    1875 November 25 - February 26
       Sailed from Amoy to New York in 93 days. 
    1877 January 11 - April 20
       Sailed from Woosung to New York in 99 days. 
    1878 February 12 - May 26
       Sailed from Shanghai to New York in 103 days. 
    1879 September 29 - February 6
      Sailed from Shanghai to London in 130 days. Captain Hamilton.

       Sold to R. Anderson, London.
