The three-masted schooner W. H. Dimond, a 376-ton vessel originally rigged as a barkentine, was lost on Bird Island, near Unga, Alaska on February 10 while sailing north with supplies and a crew for Unga station of the Alaska Codfish Co. of San Francisco. The vessel and her cargo were a total loss, but Capt. C. W. Prellberg and the 26 men aboard escaped in the boats and were picked up at Unga by the steamer Dora.
