Il Bragozzo fu l'imbarcazione da pesca più diffusa fra il XVIII ed il XIX secolo, impiegata sia lungo la costa sia al largo. Le sue origini sono molto remote: la zona di provenienza si può circoscrivere a Chioggia, da dove poi si è diffusa lungo la costa veneta e in tutto l'Adriatico. La sua storia è, in ogni modo, strettamente legata a quella di un'altra antica imbarcazione di origine chioggiotta la Tartana, barca da pesca d'altura. Per motivi strettamente economici, infatti, nel XVIII secolo si assistette al tramonto della tartana a favore del bragozzo.
